I am
JANNEKE VAN DEN HEUVEL 8 December 1976 A number of years ago I met Ki, and he has become a dear friend. Photographing together is always incredibly fun, because nothing is too crazy and everything feels possible! For more than thirty years, I have had a passion for photography. I began photographing in the era of analogue photography, during my studies in illustrative design at the art academy. Although my education focused on design, I spent most of my time in the darkroom. Working there fascinated me; it was an inspiring and educational process that strongly shaped how I observe and create images. After completing my studies, I worked in healthcare. Photography, however, never truly let go of me. About three years ago, I decided to take it up again. I enrolled at the Dutch Academy for Image Creation, where I further developed my skills and artistic vision. I have since graduated and can now call myself a professional photographer. But there is still so much to learn. My interests span a wide range of genres. I am particularly drawn to documentary photography and enjoy creating socially relevant stories, influenced by my background in healthcare. At the same time, I am strongly inspired by fine art, dance- and nature photography. Across all these genres, an artistic and expressive approach is central to my work. I am inspired by many photographers and artists, including Casper Faassen, Brendan le Clercq, and Marie Cécile Thijs. I also find inspiration in the work of Erwin Olaf, Ed van der Elsken, and Anton Corbijn, as well as landscape photographers. Each genre brings new influences that continue to shape and enrich my photographic practice. My work is poetic and expressive, with a focus on movement and dance, in which fine art photography is enriched with quiet, documentary depth.
