I am
JAAP KOER I have been photographing for about 65 years, around 30 of those quite intensively. By reading a lot, I have gained a very solid command of photography, both technically and creatively. When I am asked what I photograph, I usually answer, everything except weddings. In practice, however, it mainly comes down to (modern) architecture, street and city photography, and nature photography. I enjoy walking around outdoors with my camera; I hardly ever work indoors or in a studio. Museums are one place where I can be found regularly. I always go out with one camera and one lens, very often a 35mm lens. After a short period of getting used to it, you can do an awful lot with that. I even did this on holidays in Africa. I did have a large Sony telephoto lens for a short time, but it mostly stayed in the cupboard because carrying it around gave me back pain. For about ten years, I went out weekly with Piet. We would take the train to a station, photograph, have coffee with a slice of apple pie, photograph some more, eat a herring sandwich, photograph again, and then take the train back home. The whole trip was about looking around and chatting. Piet was very easy-going with people, and thanks to his gift of conversation we were able to visit many places that were otherwise inaccessible. Sadly, he passed away in 2023. Nowadays, I often go out alone. On Facebook, Instagram, 1x.com, 100ASA, and many other platforms, you can find my photographs under the name Jaap Koer.
