I am
HAN BERKHOUT I have been photographing since my youth, though until a few years ago mainly during holidays. My biggest hobbies have always revolved around sports, whether running, triathlon, baseball, or canoeing. Gradually, sports have taken a step back and photography has become my main hobby. This may involve photographing my sons and daughters baseball and softball games, or going for walks or bike rides with my camera along for the journey. I also enjoy playing with and editing photos in both Lightroom and Photoshop. For me, photography is above all a way to relax. In my professional life, I work as a technical installations consultant for buildings, stations, and other areas. I find it fascinating to photograph technology, such as steam trains in the Harz Mountains, coastal breakwaters, old industrial sites, as well as the lines and shapes of buildings. I work in both colour and black and white. However, my favourite subject is our landscape: nature from close up to far away, often captured with a macro lens. That is why I can frequently be found along our coast and in the dune areas. I have taken various workshops in different genres, such as ICM and street photography, to learn from different photographers and to see how others look at the world. A few years ago, I attended a workshop with Ki at the Foto Fair, and since then I have occasionally visited the CCC photo studio for a different style of photography, such as a Sarah Moon shoot or an Alien shoot. When I took the From N to P course, my interest in Photoshop really began. What I enjoy most about photography as a hobby is its versatility and the fact that you never stop learning.
