I am
TON DEKKERS 28-04-1953 I started with analog photography in 1970. In the early years, I built my knowledge through photography books and magazines, later expanding my skills by experimenting independently and working with others during workshops and portfolio shoots. In recent years, this mainly took place within the Fotounie. People quickly became my main subject, especially those driven by passion. This broad interest includes model photography, street photography, and performance-based disciplines. During my military service in 1974, I stood out with my camera and received my first role as an event photographer. A subsequent career in IT and raising children meant that photography was largely limited to family and holiday images for many years. After the turn of the millennium, my expertise in IT Cost Engineering led to international work opportunities and extensive travel. In China, I purchased my first digital camera (Canon 350D). Because these stays were often short, my photography there combined tourist impressions with street photography. During this period, I also photographed music festivals in Belgium. Images shared on Flickr led to collaborations with a music webzine in the Benelux. To this day, I continue to work for music webzines and serve as a house photographer at various festivals. During the Covid period, when concerts were absent, my focus shifted more toward model photography. I also explored sports, dance, and performance photographydisciplines driven by passion and spontaneity, without the ability to direct the scene. This strongly influenced my approach to model photography, emphasizing collaboration over rigid concepts. Rather than working from strict mood boards, I prefer to create images intuitively, shaped by the situation and the models possibilities, wishes, and boundaries. For this reason, I describe myself as a situationally intuitive photographer. Facebook: Ton Dekkers Instagram: dekkerston
