I am
TOM CURFS 04.05.1960 I have been more or less selftaught in photography since around 1978. I often went out shooting with a press photographer friend, and another friend was a studio photographer. I learned a great deal from both of them. Brigitte and I love to travel, often to distant places, and of course the camera always comes along. During a photo tour through Yunnan, China, Margo Veldhuizen encouraged me to take a workshop, which eventually led me to Ki. By following several workshops and courses at the Fotounie, I have been able to expand my skills considerably. I prefer photographing people, but I also enjoy photographing animals. In daily life, I am a Senior Project Manager in shipbuilding and ship repair at Damen. However, the finish line is coming into view given my age, which means more time for traveling and photography. I currently use Canon DSLR equipment, but I will soon be switching to a mirrorless system. When traveling, I sometimes bring my Sony RX10 to avoid carrying 15 kilograms of gear all day. I also own a DJI drone, which I should probably make better use of. I enjoy photographing with a group or guiding a group, for example during the Fotofair, but I most prefer going out with Brigitte. She understands me well, helps me excellently, and is wonderfully critical during the postprocessing.
