I am
MARCO TER BEEK I was born in Amsterdam in 1969. I had a carefree childhood and have always felt a natural urge to create. As a child I wanted to become a chef, but later chose to train as a pastry chefan artisanal profession where imagination, precision, and craftsmanship come together. Early on, what truly defines me became apparent: what my eyes see, my hands create. Creativity has always been present, but it was only later in life that it found its definitive form in photography. In 2014, I decided to become a photographer, without formal training and without the financial means to pursue an education. What followed were years of perseverance and self-study. Night after night, I immersed myself in camera technique, lighting, directing models, and image editing, applying that knowledge immediately during the day. This period shaped not only my technical foundation, but also my discipline and vision. I believe that an image must be fundamentally right at its core. My photography revolves around light, precision, and human connection. The camera is not an end in itself, but an extension of my perception. I am known for my clear direction of models and my ability to unite strength and vulnerability within a single image. In 2017, my work received international recognition when I was named a Commended Photographer at the Sony World Photography Awards, placing in the top 50 out of 107,000 entries. This recognition led to collaborations with leading brands in the photography industry. In 2024, another milestone followed: I was appointed Fujifilm GFX Imaging Ambassador, a role held by only a select number of photographers in the Netherlands. From my studio in Almere, I create both personal and commissioned work, exhibit nationally and internationally, and actively serve as an ambassador for social and ecological initiatives. My images tell storieslayered, intense, and timelesswith light as my brush.
