I am
MAARTEN VAN DER VOORDE At the age of sixteen, I received my first camera: a Canon FT-b with a 50 mm lens. I wanted to capture things I found beautiful, important, or enjoyable, so that I could relive those memories later. My life as a photographer has become one great learning journey. I have always found many subjects fascinating and wanted to know everything about them. The saying learning by doing certainly applies to me I am still learning every day. Photography, combined with my boundless curiosity and eagerness to learn, has taken me all over the world. Along the way, I have grown from unconsciously looking to consciously seeing. Having good contact with my subject plays a crucial role in my work. Since switching to Fujifilm equipment in 2015, I have started to look at my photography differently; it has made me more creative. About 90% of my work consists of black-and-white imagery, increasingly focused on people in their everyday lives and/or professions. The Fujifilm X-Pro and X-E cameras with prime lenses are my favorite workhorsesfriendly, accessible cameras that serve as my passport to step into other worlds. I was invited by Fujifilm Netherlands to become an X-Photographer (Ambassador), a title I carry with great pleasure and pride. At photo fairs and events, lectures, and excursions where I represent Fujifilm, I enthusiastically share my love for photography and Fujifilm equipment. I enjoy talking about my experiences and adventures, and I particularly enjoy giving presentations at photography clubs. Currently, I am working on an exciting new project titled Birds of Paradise of the North, in which I portray beautiful people in their often remarkable professions and hobbies. To relax, I play padel two to three times a week. Together with my lovely girlfriend, I enjoy day trips, short holidays, good food, and watching films.
