I am
JOLANDE VAN DEN HEUVEL 1966 For more than ten years, photography has been an important part of my life. Over the past years, I have developed a personal way of seeing and photographing. I lived in various places in the Netherlands and abroad for thirty years, but I am now settled in Groningen, close to my family. Besides photography, cooking and baking are also beloved hobbies. With Limburg roots, I inherited my love for these from home. At the moment I photograph with a Nikon Z6, often on my own, but also together with a photographer friend. My preference lies in creative street photography and nature photography. In my images, I search for light, atmosphere, and meaning, and I love photographs that tell a story. I create my own filters and add them to enhance mood and atmosphere. Through AFV Daguerre Groningen, I am active in photography working groups, and I participate in assignments and competitions organized by the Royal Dutch Photographers Association (Koninklijke Fotobond). Contact with other photographers keeps my work vibrant. With my series Hands, I was one of the winners of FotoNationaal 2024. I see this as recognition of my narrative approach to photography and my attention to the human aspect. Since completing a masterclass in artistic street photography at the Fotounie, I work more intuitively and leave more space for emotion and imagination. My visual language continues to evolve through workshops and mentorships, including those with Loulou Beavers, Diana Bokje, and Eli Dijkers. You can recognize my photographs by their calm, narrative character. Not only the decisive moment of taking the photograph, but also the post-processing ensures that the story is true. Photography is, for me, a way of seeing, feeling, and telling.
