I am
JOLANDA VAN HOORN 21.8.1965 About fifteen years ago I started photography. In everyday life I am a mathematics teacher. My pitch is: thank goodness we still have the photos! Like many people, I began by taking simple holiday snapshots with a basic camera. When I discovered walking, my way of photographing changed as well. I started to look more consciously, to observe more, and to capture moments with greater intention. This led to a growing interest in photography and eventually to working with better cameras. During my walks I almost always take my camera with me. My photography mainly focuses on nature and animals. At the moment I photograph with the Sony RX10 M4, a deliberate choice: this camera offers great versatility without the need to carry separate lenses while walking. For me, photography is primarily about capturing moments. By photographing, I learn to look more attentively and to pause and notice details. I do not like extensive post-processing: a photo is good as it is, or it is not. I find that honesty and purity in an image very important. To further develop myself and for the social aspect I also enjoy photographing together with others. That is why I take part in photography workshops, mainly through FotoUnie. These workshops challenge me to experiment and to continue developing as a photographer. Besides photography, I enjoy knitting, crocheting, reading, and doing puzzles. But when the weather is nice, I prefer to head into nature with my backpack and camera for a long walk. Wandering through forests, nature reserves, or along the sea creates a natural connection for me between relaxation and photography. Photography remains a continuous journey of discovery for me, with looking, observing, and capturing the moment at its heart.
