PEDRO & LEENTJE Sinds 2017 vormen ze een creatief duo. Pedro staat al zo’n 25 jaar model en Leentje zette haar eerste stappen in de fotografie rond haar twaalfde met een analoge Canon EOS 100. Leentje volgt de opleiding Fotokunst aan de Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten te Antwerpen en Pedro is autodidact in de teken- en schilderkunst. Voorheen waagden ze zich weleens aan Urbex en Street Photography maar het genre waar hun focus de laatste jaren op ligt is visual storytelling. Meestal raken ze voor hun beeldvorming geïnspireerd door de actualiteit en meer bepaald de heersende polarisatiestrijd aangaande maatschappelijk ‘hete hangijzers’ zoals religie, Me Too, woke, cancel culture, genderidentiteit,... Het idee voor een visueel verhaal vormt zich in Leentje’s verbeelding waarna ze samen brainstormen over hoe alles praktisch uitgewerkt kan worden. Omdat ze het hele proces van decoropbouw, verzamelen van props tot styling zelf in handen houden, fotograferen ze bij voorkeur in hun thuisstudio. Leentje houdt de regie in handen van achter haar Canon EOS 5D mark IV en Pedro brengt de personages letterlijk en figuurlijk tot leven. Elk element in de foto maakt onderdeel uit van de boodschap en wat je ziet is vaak een metafoor die uitnodigt tot nadenken. Hun motto: More is more…less is a bore! Hun favoriete fotografen zijn o.a Helmut Newton, Joel-Peter Witkin, David LaChapelle, Weegee, Ali Mahdavi, Mr. Perou, Roger Ballen, Mothmeister,Erwin Olaf en Martin Parr maar ook absurdistisch visueel kunstenaar Maurizio Cattelan valt bij hen in de smaak. PEDRO & LEENTJE Since 2017, they have formed a creative duo. Pedro has been working as a model for about 25 years, while Leentje took her first steps in photography around the age of twelve with an analog Canon EOS 100. Leentje is currently studying Photography at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, and Pedro is self-taught in drawing and painting. In the past, they occasionally ventured into Urbex and Street Photography, but in recent years their focus has shifted to visual storytelling. Their imagery is usually inspired by current events, more specifically by the ongoing polarization surrounding socially “hot-button” issues such as religion, Me Too, woke culture, cancel culture, gender identity, and more. The idea for a visual story takes shape in Leentje’s imagination, after which they brainstorm together on how to bring it to life in practical terms. Because they manage the entire process themselves—from set design and prop collection to styling—they prefer to photograph in their home studio. Leentje directs from behind her Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, while Pedro brings the characters to life, both literally and figuratively. Every element in the photograph contributes to the message, and what you see is often a metaphor that invites reflection. Their motto: More is more… less is a bore!
