FRANCIS THOLE 31-08-1961 te ’s-Gravenhage Nadat de kinderen wat zelfstandiger en ik mijn handen weer wat meer vrij had, ben ik sinds 2013 weer begonnen met fotografie Begonnen met een analoge camera en het klassieke doka werk, ben ik nu overgeschakeld op een digitale camera. Eerst een Fujifilm X-T2, gevolgd door een X-T5 en een Canon R6 Mark II. De cursussen en workshops die ik heb gevolgd zijn niet meer op 2 of zelfs 4 handen te tellen. Momenteel ben ik lid van 3 fotoclubs dus ik krijg voldoende inspiratie! Voor mijn werk als Senior Purser bij KLM vlieg ik inmiddels ruim 40 jaar over de hele wereld met meestal mijn camera mee. Macro, portret, straatfotografie, irisfotografie, foodfotografie, reisfotografie, high key, low key, stilleven vind ik allemaal leuk evenals conceptuele fotografie. Het enige wat ik nog niet zo gedaan heb is urbex fotografie terwijl ik die foto’s fantastisch vind; dus dit staat nog wel op mijn wensenlijstje. Verder ben ik altijd te porren om met de camera op pad te gaan. Ik fotografeer graag in de namiddag of avond tijdens het blauwe uurtje. Doordat ik altijd jetlag heb en dus ook veel slaapproblemen is de vroege ochtend niet mijn favoriete tijdstip. Ik kan helemaal gelukkig worden als ik een geslaagde foto heb gemaakt. AI vind ik heel soms een leuke toevoeging hoewel ik het liever zonder doe. Ik werk voornamelijk met Lightroom en soms een beetje Photoshop. Verder droom ik er nog van om thuis een studiootje te kunnen realiseren – wie weet na mijn pensionering. Een fotograaf waar ik bewondering voor heb is Gemmy Woudendijk. Zou haar stijl ook graag eens maken maar dat is niet makkelijk met alle kostuums en de settings. Veel plezier met dit mooie boek van Ki en zijn vrienden.

I started with an analogue camera and traditional darkroom work, but have since switched to digital photography. First a Fujifilm X-T2, followed by an X-T5 and a Canon R6 Mark II. The number of courses and workshops I have taken can no longer be counted on two or even four hands. I am currently a member of three photography clubs, so I receive plenty of inspiration! In my work as a Senior Purser at KLM, I have been flying all over the world for more than 40 years now, usually with my camera with me. I enjoy macro, portrait, street photography, iris photography, food photography, travel photography, high key, low key, still life, as well as conceptual photography. The only genre I haven’t really explored yet is urbex photography, even though I find those images fantastic—so that’s definitely still on my wish list. Otherwise, I’m always eager to head out with my camera. I particularly enjoy photographing in the afternoon or evening during the blue hour.Because I’m almost always dealing with jet lag and therefore have sleep issues, early mornings are not my favorite time of day. I can be completely happy when I’ve taken a successful photograph.I sometimes find AI a nice addition, although I prefer to work without it. I mainly work with Lightroom and occasionally a bit of Photoshop. I also still dream of setting up a small studio at home—perhaps after my retirement. A photographer I greatly admire is Gemmy Woudendijk. I would love to try working in her style as well, but that’s not easy with all the costumes and settings involved.
